The world is slowly coming to rest after the Second World War and for the Belgian master detective with the carefully twirled mustache, Hercule Poirot (Kenneth Branagh), the exciting time in his life seems to be really over. He enjoys his retirement in Venice, but his curious streak doesn't want to hear about it. So it is that he accepts the invitation to a séance. Of course it doesn't stop with this pseudo-supernatural trick. The servant Joyce Reynolds (Michelle Yeoh) seizes the opportunity and tells the round about a murder she had witnessed years ago - and is later found dead herself. Poirot already knows that his masterful skills are in demand. So he follows the request of the writer Ariadne Oliver (Tina Fey) and takes on the case. But who can be the murderer? Many come into question and only Poirot seems to be able to keep track...
